CALICE Calibrating Plant Biodiversity in Glacier Ice

Research | Historical reconstruction of biodiversity trends

In order to relate biodiversity changes to the pollen analytic and eDNA results from the glacier core we investigate land use and land-use changes in the past 7 decades, i.e. since 1950. Due to the exposed glacier site and thus its large pollen catchment area, we consider (i) the immediate environment (radius 5 km = micro-scale), (ii) the adjacent regions (radius 20 and 50 km = meso-scale A and B), (iii) the far distance (radius 50-100 km = macro-scale). The micro-, meso-, and macro-scale will be investigated with different intensities as it covers an area up to 31,416 km2.
