Paolo Zatelli

Paolo Zatelli is associate professor in Topography and Cartograpy (Settore Concorsuale 08/A4 –GEOMATICA, Settore Scientifico Disciplinare ICAR/06 –TOPOGRAFIA E CARTOGRAFIA) at the University of Trento, he teaches Topography, Numerical Cartography and GIS, Environmental data management and analysis with GIS.

The research activity concerns various aspects of the metric survey of the territory and the processing of both metric and semantic information, including the acquisition of data with modern techniques, their efficient processing and their integrated management.

The study of modern survey methods concerns both precise techniques, such as GPS, and extensive methods such as laser scanning, remote sensing and digital photogrammetry. Further research deals with the determination of the Earth's gravitational field at high resolution using satellite geodesy. Innovative multiresolution data processing techniques were studied, both for the efficient representation of data and for their filtering.

The treatment of territorial data and their management is studied with the help of GIS, for which new functions have been implemented for the creation of environmental models.

He develops, uses and supports Free and Open Source software in research and education since 1995.
