Trento

The city of Trento focuses on enhancing and valorizing abandoned and underused inner areas to enhance new productive and recreational landscapes. These areas are pivotal for developing a strategically planned network of natural and semi-natural areas, including features in rural and urban areas which together – functionally and ecologically interconnected – ensure diverse advantages for nature, as well as social benefits and economic prosperity for humans (ecosystem services).

The city of Trento, starting from its marginal, focuses on the identification of adaptation tactics to ongoing changes for inner urban settlements with a focus on sustainable local food production. One of the main objectives is to offer multifunctional green infrastructures able to support: accessibility and connectivity of marginal areas (development of slow-mobility pathway network); urban agriculture as regeneration tool (mapping state-of-the-art, enhancing participation); communication and participation (involving citizens in developing green areas, introduce participative design of open spaces); multifunctional and transdisciplinary connections (among topics and landscapes).

The selected experimental fields/testing beds in Trento will be based on the aim to connect blue and green infrastructures to enhance the ecological value of landscape. In accordance with the European Landscape Convention, it offers the opportunity to recognize that the marginal and peri-urban areas have social, ecological and economic values. The goal will be the realization of a comprehensive mapping of the systems in Trento and specific action projects in selected areas that can identify adaptation tactics to ongoing changes for urban settlements.
