Work Package 2: Building a comprehensive and adaptive Common Framework (WP2A); Testing and improving the framework in an iterative process (WP2B)

- the WP2a identifies land use models and strategies for reconnecting cities to their surrounding areas. The objective is to map best practises at a European level regarding sustainable land use models reconnecting cities to their surrounding areas. For example, we already, in the consortium have implemented models. Birmingham bub has worked on Natural Capital Metrics- co-designed with HS2- High Speed train and the application of “donut” economics to a region Combined Authority on DEIM- Direct Economic Impact Model- (H.M. Treasury approved) etc. In the Gothenburg, the challenge is to increase job creation and new farming business models, to increase food security, to improve eco-system services accounting and natural solutions for the climate risk management. The indirect impact are a better social inclusion by the participation generation, the reappropriation of the geographical identity and revaluation of the urban hinterland. All these expected impacts are much in line with the European Landscape Convention (ELC). It is also important to highlight succesful models on processes involving different levels of governance and adminstrative borders, such as LAB 190 in the Gothenburg region. Starting from partners experience and competences and collected best practices, this WP will lead to the creation of a toolbox mainly targeting city/landscape/regional planners at a municipality- and regional level. But also it constitutes a viable guide for land owner, both public and private.

- the WP2B tests and pilots the land use models identified in the WP2A in the different Hubs in the project (Gothenburg, Birmingham and Trento). This test phase will feed the Common framework in an iterative process. The objective is to have a Common Framework ready to be used at the end of the project. As an example of activity, in this WP2b Gothenburg will work with Gothenburg Agriculture High School to create opportunities for farmer entrepreneurs and enabling paths for farming careers through land lease models investments strategies and educational programmes. Gothenburg will also implement with the Lab 190 a model area for sustainable development focusing on multi stakeholder processes, green sector, sustainable tourism and biodiversity.
